The best movie theater in the world according to the motion picture association of America, the Traverse City State Theater.
A bit more info on it, the state theater is the main venue for the traverse city film festival founded by Michael Moore. The theater is non profit, tickets are $8, they do 25 cent matinees every weekend, plus free showings on holidays, spring break, and during the summer the first day the temperature reaches 90 and again if it reaches 100.
There is a pin point accurate fiber optic nights sky on the ceiling that is the exact location of the stars when the theater was originally built about a hundred years ago. The theater was closed from the late 80s to the mid 2000s, when it was beautifully restored. The theater shows independent films, documentaries, operas, ballets and classic movies. (As well as other movies not in wide release)
The curtains actually rise before each showing, there is an upper balcony and an old fashioned marquee. Also, the seats recline, which is a nice touch.
"I shiver, thinking how easy it is to be totally wrong about people, to see one tiny part of them and confuse it for the whole."
